The Education Committee is responsible for curating training and public awareness learning activities, and other strategies to raise the profile of metabolic health interventions and educate practitioners in their use. Also curates school and community programs that support metabolic health. Dr. Pendergrass is an awarded teaching professor, author, literature researcher and entrepreneur. Dr. Pendergrass has taught thousands of graduate, medical and undergraduate students for decades in biochemistry, physiology, neurobiology, cell biology, anatomy, cell biology, brain dissection, he was awarded the HOPE award for his teaching efforts (https://today.ku.edu/pendergrass-receives-hope-award) as well as the Mortar Board award. This breadth of teaching in such a wide array is a rarity and provides unique insights into conceptualizing complex biological concepts such as pathophysiology in the metabolic health arena, nutrition and appetite regulation arenas.

He authored the PaleoSmart Commandments for individuals who are unfamiliar with the precepts of the Paleolithic diet and are looking to achieve life-long weight loss and resolution of type 2 diabetes.  With the “commandments” of the book, he has conducted over 50 seminars around the Kansas City metropolitan area.

His research interests include the neuroregulation of appetite, schizophrenia and bipolar disorders, learning and memory, non-opioid pharmacology, addiction disorders and protein allosteric interactions.  He has given seminars in appetite regulation, schizophrenia, sexual differences in the brain, and the learning and memory paradigms of infants and toddlers.
Current efforts include the founding of the Metabolic Health Alliance dedicated to the mission of using nutrition and lifestyle changes for treating and preventing metabolic diseases like diabetes. He serves on the coordinating board for the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners.

He owns an MCAT preparation program featuring online live presentations available at DrD-MCATPrep.com.
He is past Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Evolution and Health (jevohealth.com) and currently servesas the life sciences editor. He is a member of the Ancestral Health Society.
